What causes global warming? Simply put, the main cause is burning fossil fuels. When we use coal, oil and gas, we emit carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, thickening the "blanket" above us and trapping more heat on the earth. The less we burn, the more we can reduce the impacts of global warming.

Together, individuals, businesses and elected officials can change the forecast for  wildlife.  What can you do?

• Save money at the gas pump by keeping your tires properly inflated and your engine tuned up (power boat engines too).
   
• When purchasing your next boat, consider gas mileage and emissions. Boat engines such as a low emission, four-stroke motor pollute only one-sixth the amount of older two-stroke engines.
   
• Don't let your boat motors idle longer than necessary.

• Recycle aluminum cans, glass bottles, plastic, cardboard and newspapers. This reduces the energy needed to make new products.
   
• The next time a lamp burns out, change out the bulb with a compact fluorescent bulb. One bulb will save 500 pounds of coal.
