Eckert: State's failure to act will cost hunters dearly

Officials have killed the deer at that Kent County farm where Michigan's first case of chronic wasting disease was confirmed Tuesday.
And they've killed off deer hunting in Michigan.
Maybe that's an over-reaction.
But this can't be good for our sport. And state and federal officials are to blame. They could have and should have prevented this. Instead, they repeatedly caved in to special interest groups that demanded their rights to play with a ticking bomb.
