Virginia

How will global warming affect Virginia? The following fact sheet looks at how people, wildlife, habitat and the state's economy could change if global warming continues unabated.

"The Chesapeake Bay and Global Warming: A Paradise Lost for Hunters, Anglers and Outdoor Enthusiasts?"

Chesapeake Bay Report Cover [2]The National Wildlife Federation just released a new report looking at how global warming is impacting hunting and fishing in the Chesapeake Bay.

"Large numbers of mallards and black ducks that we would typically get into around Thanksgiving aren't showing up in the Chesapeake until Christmas, if even then," says Steve Huettner, former president of the Maryland Sportsman's Association. "And the last couple years we are lucky if the canvasbacks come at all."

Already, the region is being impacted. Ducks are "shortstopping" at the Great Lakes, coastal habitats are being inundated by sea-level rise and non-native species are thriving.

TAKE ACTION:

Urge your Members of Congress to protect duck hunting opportunities in the Chesapease Bay. [3]
